We celebrated Zasha's birthday in Paris, our first visit to the city. We fell in love with its charm and the friendly locals.

General tips

Airport in Orly: Consider paying for a Meet & Greet. After a 6.5-hour flight, it was best to have someone meet you once you got off the flight and cut you past immigration and customs.
Getting Around: Pay for something other than regular cabs as they come out more expensive than Uber, and all the Uber rides were Teslas, Audis, BMWs, and nice rides compared to the Taxis.
Tips: Giving a $5 tip was considered a good tip regardless of the bill, and $10 was exceptional service. This is because wages in Paris are liveable, and tipping isn't necessary but welcomed.
Credit Card: Use a credit card that doesn't have foreign transaction fees since those add up if you keep using them.
Tax & Gifts: If you purchase anything from a brand store, ask them for the tax document so you can get reimbursed at the airport. The process involves [specific steps for tax reimbursement].
Language: Although we got around well with English, consider learning a moderate amount of French.
Busy times: we found that showing up at some sightseeing places before 11am was great. Things really start to get crowded around 11-3pm.

Hotels

Hôtel La Comtesse Tour Eiffel

Hotel
Bar
Hotel Review: The hotel may be small, but it's located in a beautiful spot with an incredible view of the Eiffel Tower. The hotel's price is worth it solely for its view. When making a reservation, choosing a room at the front of the hotel that faces the Eiffel Tower is recommended, as the rooms on the sides of the building don't have the same view. Moreover, only the second-floor room have a walk-out balcony, while the other rooms have an indoor space where you can sit and enjoy the view.
Recommend: Book a room with a front view overlooking the Eiffel from your bed. Also, book the second floor so you can have a walk-out balcony.

Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme

Hotel
Hotel Review: We had a fantastic experience at the hotel. The service was top-notch, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was perfect. The check-in process was smooth, and they offered to carry our bags in and out of the room. We requested a late check-out at 2 pm, and they didn't question us. When we arrived, they surprised us with a bottle of champagne in the room and also brought a cake for Zasha's birthday. The staff were always willing to help and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. The concierge was especially helpful in booking our dinner and lunch reservations and arranging tours. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and we recommend this hotel to others.
Recommend: Even thuogh tipping wasn't required consider bringing some cash for the people helping with the bags. Enjoy the spa next time since we didn't have a chance to check it out.

Upon arriving in Paris, the first spot we visited was located right across from our hotel. The atmosphere was cozy and it felt more like a local hangout than a tourist spot. We enjoyed our meal al fresco.

  • Espresso
  • Aperol Spritzagu
  • Cheese board (didn't come with any meat but was delicious paired with an amazing buagette) an

The Basilica of Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre

Basilica
Sights & Landmarks
This spot is great for taking photos as it provides a complete aerial view of Paris. When we arrived, it wasn't crowded, but it became very crowded around sunset when we were leaving the Basilica. I highly recommend going inside the Basilica to view its beautiful interior architecture. After a short walk around, we left the place.
Recommendation: You'll need to see and consider getting there a bit before sunset so that once you finish, you can capture the sunset over the city from high above.

Montmartre

Best spot to just stroll around and get lost a bit. We spent most of our time walking up and down the small cobblestone streets. The weather was great and there was live music in almost every spot and outdoor performances as well. People were dancing, drinking and enjoying a beautiful day. It was a short walk from the Basilica.
Recommendation: It's recommended to bring cash with you as there are many street artists and vendors selling various items, including portraits, along the street.

La Mère Catherine(Macaroon)

French restaurant
We stumbled upon a restaurant that overlooked the Artist Square, where numerous artists were busy painting and sketching people. We took a seat outside and gazed at the artists while the sun was setting over Paris. It was a perfect way to take a break from walking and enjoy the outdoor ambiance without feeling overwhelmed. Despite being outside, it felt private, and we could savor the moment in peace.
Vibe: Laid-back chic
Service: Friendly and funny
Ordered:
  • Pinot Noir
  • Coca-cola normal
  • French Onion Soup (to die for, worth getting)
Recommendation: If the weather permits and the party size allows, it's better to sit outside as the indoors feel too formal and the outside energy is more exciting.

La Crêperie mon ami

Creperie
Located between two restaurants, this tiny crepe spot in Paris is known as the best and didn't disappoint. The chef himself makes incredibly delicious crepes that are worth the walk.
Ordered:
  • Nutella & raspberry Jam (It was delicious and tasted sweeter than the whipped cream)
  • Nutella & whipped crema (The whipped creme was delicious, and the Nutella was a nice mix between the two
Recommendation: Both were delicious, but next time, order the Nutella raspberry jam with the whipped cream to balance out the sweetness. Also there is no sitting area so you would be taking your crepe to go.

Eiffel Tower

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
It's a beautiful walk and a great spot for photos of the lawns in front of the Eiffel Tower. The lawns are currently closed for the preparation of the summer Olympics, but it's still a great area to take pictures and admire the Eiffel Tower.

Rue de l'Université

There is an amazing photo opportunity near the lawns of the Eiffel Tower. The area resembles the cobblestone streets in Dumbo where people take photos of the Brooklyn Bridge. You may have to wait for a little while, but the view is stunning. It's not too crowded in the morning, but it gets busier towards the afternoon.
Recommendations: Show up earlier in the day so you avoid any crowds.

Pont d'Iéna

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
A pleasant walk across the bridge offering a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower, but it was extremely crowded.

We had planned to visit Carette, but the line there was insanely long. So, we decided to choose another place and were quite satisfied with our decision. We managed to grab two seats outside, facing the Eiffel Tower, and enjoyed two drinks while watching cars and pedestrians passing by.

Service: Professional, courteous
Ordered:
  • Pinot Noir

French restaurant
Restaurant
The restaurant is located inside the Musee national de la Marine de Paris, and you need to enter through the museum to get there. Once you arrive, you'll be greeted by a friendly host behind two white doors. The restaurant has a beautiful decor with many indoor plants and flowers. We opted to sit outside, where we were treated to a breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower. The waiter was very friendly and provided recommendations based on our preferences. You can enjoy the same stunning view of the Eiffel Tower as you would from Espl. du Trocadero. It's a perfect spot for a lunch break after a long day of walking. It's recommended to make a reservation ahead of time as it gets crowded quickly after opening.
Vibe: Chic
Service: Friendly and helpful
Ordered:
  • Pasta with truffle (delicious)
  • Braised beef (worth sharing)
  • Pinot Nior
  • Cosmo
  • Creme Brulee (not our favorite could skip)

Amazing time we arrived and we were greeted by a person at the door asking if we had reservations. We then waited for an elevator (fitting max 4 people) to go up to the restaurant. We arrive at the top and are seated on the top floor overlooking the bar. The place was incredible our meal included:

  • Arranchini (must have)
  • Cacio pepee (very liquidy at first but got better over time when the cream got creamier)
  • Seared Scallops (GoodPep)
Recommendation: After your dinner reservation stick around and enjoy drinks at the bar also ask the wait staff for photos of the Eiffle they can direct you to their balcony area where you can get a nice view uninterrupted of the eiffle in the background from a rooftop.

Day 3

Museum Walking
1

Musée Yves Saint Laurent

Museum
Specialty Museums
We recently visited a small yet awe-inspiring exhibit. Despite being only two rooms in size, the story behind it was impactful. It was inspiring to learn about how the artist was influenced by his travels to Morocco and how he explored the interaction between light and color. Additionally, I found it fascinating that he worked for 30 years before he finally opened his first storefront and became successful. This experience taught me the importance of patience and perseverance.

Bambini Paris

Italian restaurant
Lounge
Pizza restaurant
We discovered a small café/dining area inside the Palais de Tokyo during our visit to Bambini. Though the outdoor area was closed due to the rain, the indoor seating area provided a lovely view of the museum. The highlight of our visit was the vintage photo booth available for just 5 euros. We were able to take four photos, which were printed right away. We learned that adjusting the seat height is essential to ensure our eyes are at the same level in the pictures. We also used our iPhone camera to take photos of ourselves by placing them on the screen.
Vibe: Relaxed
Service: Professional
Ordered:
  • Saint Germain Spritz (it was too light and tasted watered down)
  • Pinot Nior
Recommendation: If you use the photobooth make sure your adjust your seat so you're low so the photos come out great. Make a reservation at Bambini it looked delicious to try

We came across a stunning exhibit that charged $12 per person, not including taxes. The exhibits were all fantastic, but the story of the tiger and the love story between two Middle Eastern individuals impacted me the most, and I was in tears. The exhibit also had several displays about the Palestinian struggle for freedom, which were very impressive.

We went to a lovely restaurant after visiting the museum. The food was excellent and made with fresh ingredients from local farms. It was by far the healthiest meal we had on our trip besides having cheese boards. The atmosphere was pleasant, and they had live music at night. Unfortunately, there was no music playing while we were there. We chose to sit by the window, which offered a more picturesque view. The meal was excellent and a perfect way to end our day at the museum.
Vibe: cocktail speakeasy with natural light
Service: Professional
Ordered:
  • Houmous au Zaatar (delicious hummus that came with a butter made as a candle to burn and melt as you continue to eat the hummus)
  • Brocollis Grilles & thingurt (incredible shredded and crispy broccolli and yogurt went well together. Must order)
  • Borches de Poulet & Riz Presque Croustillant (Chicken is kebob style with thick cuts of chicken and with little to no bones. The rice was amazing and crispy)
  • Belini (too sweet)
  • Paloma (very balanced)
Recommendation: Good healthy food but energy level inside was a bit low might consider skipping this and trying out bambini next time.

Crazy Horse Paris

Performing arts theater
Dinner theater
What an incredible show! Zasha and I arrived just 10 minutes before the start. We were amazed that people were already seated, sipping their drinks and enjoying the atmosphere. We wished we had come earlier to enjoy the drinks and the host's singing. The best part of our experience was purchasing the champagne tickets, as we were seated right in front and had a great view of the entire stage. The entire show lasted about an hour and thirty minutes, and it was the best experience we had in Paris. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.
Recommendation: Purchase the crazy Champagne ticket because it gets you seats right in front and a nice bottle of champagne for the show. Also, show up 45 minutes earlier and dress the part ;)

The atmosphere was relaxed, and the staff were friendly. However, the waiter was aff-putting. Although the food wasn't excellent, the DJ and live guitarist provided great entertainment, making it a worthwhile stop before returning to the hotel.
Vibe: Cocktail night out
Service: off putting
Ordered:
  • Pinot Nior
  • Cosmo
  • Burrata (The best meal of the night it was so delicious, this is a must-order)
  • Calamari fritti (kind of basic in the breading and the flavor. We would skip this next time around. We didn't even finish it we left half on the plate.)
  • Linguine Cacio e Pepe (Zasha ordered this but it wasn't to pare with what she made it was alright nothing special. If you wanted to get it it's good but wasn't incredible.)
  • Polpo alla griglia  (Luis ordered the octopus it was delicious a whole piece of the tentacle. It was good but filling one order was enough.)
Recommendation: Good dinner, make reservations and the live music is a plus. I would choose GIGI over this spot if you had to choose.

Louvre Museum

Museums
The Louvre museum was packed with people outside, and the queues were chaotic and long. Luckily, we had booked a tour guide, which allowed us to skip the line and provided us with a guided tour of the main three halls on the 1st floor of the museum. Our last stop was the Mona Lisa. Despite the cost, I highly recommend booking a tour guide, as the entry time slots are only sometimes accurate, and some people end up waiting outside for almost an hour to get in.
Recommendation: Book a small group tour guide so you can skip the line and they help familiarize you with the layout of the Louve since it's a massive place.

Italian restaurant
Zasha and I walked for 15 minutes from our hotel to have lunch at a restaurant inside the park. If you are driving, you can only get as close as the park entrance, and then you would need to walk the rest of the way to reach the restaurant.
Vibe: Chic
Service: welcoming, helpful
Ordered:
  • Mozzarella di buffala & Datter (great salad and very refreshing)
  • Ceviche de St-Jacques (a different type of ceviche than what I'm use to with Peruvian. It wasn't lemony at all and the taste was a bit bland for my preference. I would skip this next time)
  • Pipe rigate alla vodka (the best pasta we had on our trip it was incredible flavorful and creamy consistancy)
Recommendation: Make sure to book your lunch/dinner ahead of time and I would keep the pasta, remove the ceviche and add a pizza since those looked really good and popular.

After lunch, we decided to take a leisurely walk to a museum on the opposite side of the park. It took us approximately 20 minutes to cross the bridge. The museum was crowded but nothing compared to the Louvre. They had a vast collection of impressionist art, which Zasha adored, and I found a couple of works from other artists that I fell in love with. We stopped for lunch at the cafe on the 5th floor and explored the museum's 0, 1st, and 5th floors. We decided to buy the audio tour, which gave us a better understanding of some of the artwork we were unfamiliar with.
Recommendation: Even though the walk-in line was short book tickets ahead of time to avoid the lines & purchase an audio guide :)

Day 6

Versailles
1

Palace of Versailles

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
We purchased the passport package that allowed us to visit other locations in the Versailles area. The package also included lunch. The ride to the destination took us around 30 minutes, and we arrived at 8:10 am. Since we arrived early, we had the opportunity to explore the area before the crowds arrived. We took some photos in front of the gates, and after that, Zasha lined up at the 9 am line while I took a few pictures of the garden. We were among the first three people who entered the area, and we headed straight to the hall of mirrors on the second floor after visiting the king and queen's bed chambers. It was an unforgettable experience since we had the chance to photograph the area while it was still empty. Out of all the places, this place felt like people were not helpful and instead rude when we asked for help with directions or had questions.
Recommend: Purchase tickets for the 9 am time slot and arrive an hour early. Take advantage of the quiet garden and be the first to enter the Hall of Mirrors before it becomes crowded. You can visit the other rooms later if you wish to. Also they don't have a coat check and are very strict about leaving clothing on any place so try to leave everything in a car or at the hotel. Lastly, no flash allowed in the rooms

La Petite Venise

Restaurant
Bar
We chose to use the passport+Lunch combo to have lunch at a restaurant. Although the food was excellent, the service didn't meet our expectations. We placed our order with a friendly waiter, but other guests who arrived after us were served before us. We waited an hour before our appetizers were served, and it was only after Zasha brought it to the waiter's attention that our order was expedited. The appetizer was excellent, the squash soup was perfect, and the pasta and salmon dishes were tasty. Unfortunately, it was evident throughout our experience that the restaurant preferred French-speaking patrons over English-speaking ones.
Vibe: Chic
Service: inattentive, dismissive
Ordered:
  • App: Veloute de Chatalgnes et son toast burrata / Cream of chestnuts, burrata & Toast (delicious the cream of chestnut tasted cozy especially in the cold weather and the burrata and toast was a nice texture change to pair with the cream)
  • Main course: Radiatori a la creme d'olive et tomates confites / Radiatory with olive cream and candied tomatoes (this was so delicious and smooth. The cream sauce was smooth and velvetty. The flavor was filling and creamy almost like a cream of spinach consistancy. You can really taste the olives in a good way not too overpowering).
  • Main Course: Filet de bar, champignons de saison, creme d' ali / Sea bass fillet, seasonal mushrooms, garlic cream (This was incredible the Salmon was perfectly cooked seared skin and all. It was juicy and it paired nicely with the mushrooms which were cooked perfectly. The garlic cream mixed in made it a cozy filling meal).
Recommend: It's a good idea to learn some basic French, even if you struggle with the pronunciation of meals. It's better than only knowing how to say "hello" and "thank you" in French. The service at the restaurant was very slow, but the food was amazing. They had two menus - one for people who paid ahead and another for walk-ins. I suggest trying the walk-in option next time but give yourself plenty of time because the food isn't served quickly.

The mall was very spacious and had a stunning centerpiece on the ceiling. All the major brands were present, and it was pretty crowded, giving it the feel of a high-end department store like Saks Fifth or Bloomingdale's. It was a convenient place to shop without having to visit individual stores.

Café Carrousel

Cafe
While we were going to the museum, we stumbled upon a beautiful place we had seen before during our first visit to the park. We didn't stop then because the YSL Cafe was closed. However, this time, we went inside and had the best pastries on this trip. It's a great spot to visit before heading out for any museum hopping or park strolling.
Vibe: Chic
Service: welcoming, helpful
Ordered:
  • Macchiato
  • Cafe Creme
  • Pan du Chocolate (not on the menu but when you ask, they have and it was incredible!! best one I had so far on this trip. It was warm and freshly made)
  • Croissant (not on the menu, but they have it. When you ask, Zasha loved this. It was exactly what she thought of when she thought of French croissants).
  • Scramble eggs with bacon (The eggs were made perfectly and it was a large portion it filled us both up and we had a little left over. The bacon were two strips and were perfectly cooked.)
Recommendation: Stop at a cafe caoursel before entering the park or going on a museum walk. If you're looking for baked goods, rely on something other than the menu, as it may only sometimes reflect their availability. It's best to ask the staff if they have what you're looking for. Moreover, if you're in the mood for a filling breakfast, consider ordering the eggs, as they are amazing.

The museum has three floors, and one floor features a cafe and bookstore. We were captivated by the water lily works. Although the museum is less extensive than some others, it is still fantastic to see. They also offer coat and bag checks, but ensure you do not leave any valuables there since they ask you to take them before depositing your items.
Recommendation: Consider getting the museum hopper pass. They are valid for 7 days and give you access to a bunch of museums that are worth seeing.

Before leaving, we discovered this restaurant near our hotel and were pleasantly surprised by their French onion soup quality. The combination of different types of bread and croutons on top of the soup created a deliciously juicy broth, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of cheese. It's a shame we didn't know about this place earlier; we would have loved to enjoy their soup every night.
Vibe: Bistro cocktail-ish
Service: Professional
Ordered:
  • Cheeseboard (skip this it's lacking jam it's just cheese and bread)
  • French Onion Soup (Must have)
Recommendation: They had a lot of tables reserved we were able to get a seat but consider reserving a spot. Also bar looks beautiful would be nice to have seen this spot at night.
